rudec
The aim of the Goat Project is to provide a source of income, food and organic manure to local community groups. Goats are especially important in rural Cameroon as they can be kept as an insurance policy, to be sold in case of emergencies, in a community with no free health care or access to insurance against loss of belongings through theft, fire, etc.
In 2008, ten female goats were given to 5 local women's, old people's and microfinance groups to care for as they choose. Two female kids are returned by each group to RUDEC, and any other offspring can be shared among the group. RUDEC can then pass on the returned kids to new groups. In January 2010, one female goat was passed on to a new group, with another planned for March 2010.
